Zandie Khumalo-Gumede, singer and sister to Kelly Khumalo, has spoken up about the night of Senzo Meyiwa’s death. The Akwanele singer was one of the five people in the house the night Orlando Pirates player was gunned down in 2014.
In an exclusive interview with eNCA with Silindelo Masikane she recalls being with Senzo Meyiwa at the back of the car while rushing him to the hospital.
“I was the one sitting with Senzo at the back [of the car] putting pressure on the wound leading to the hospital,” she says.
“Even on our way to the hospital I could feel him getting cold from his feet going up. I was busy talking to him all the way, trying to keep him alive but unfortunately. I could feel his stomach all the way, trying to keep him alive.”
When asked what she could’ve done differently that night, Zandie said she could’ve tried to fight the alleged intruders or even taken out a knife form the drawer.
“When something happens of that magnitude, you forget everything. I even forgot the knife drawer, maybe I could’ve taken a knife and stabbed someone. Maybe if there was one [of the men] left behind, one would have said something it would’ve been better. Things just go through your mind that I would’ve wanted to do so much.”
A teary Zandi starts off the interview with an apology to neighbours who were affected by the Khumalo family being accused of Senzo’s death.
When we got back from hospital, the house was packed. When they say the scene was tempered with, what does that mean. When I left the house to ask for help and I came back, Kelly and some guys
Last week, she made headlines when she lashed out at Advocate Teffo for not getting answers about their son.
“It looks like one is never gonna get their day in court la coz people entrusted with this case have turned into a circus so I might as well say this here and now. It really pains me that this case doesn’t look like it will be solved anytime soon because South Africa believe opportunists and populists like this one. it pains me because it means the Meyiwa family will never get justice and it pains me because it means my family will forever live under this dark cloud, this one claimed he had an eyewitness uphi? He claimed he had proof that Kelly pulled the trigger and now he withdraws,he has had his 2 minutes of fame,” she said.
“This desperate desire to find the Khumalo’s guilty so ‘We will believe and back anyone who says what we want to hear’ will stand in the way of justice, this tunnel view approach that the society is applying to this case is what is obstructing justice from being served but qhubekani,” she wrote.
