DJ and Metro FM presenter Lamiez Holworthy has opened up about a frightening health ordeal that saw her undergo emergency surgery after an ovarian cyst ruptured, with doctors later diagnosing her with endometriosis.
The popular broadcaster shared details of her ordeal in an emotional video, documenting her time in hospital, the support she received from loved ones and her recovery at home.
A painful ordeal that turned into an emergency
Lamiez revealed that her health battle began after doctors discovered that she had two growing ovarian cysts, one of which had ruptured and caused her severe pain.
“We found that we have cysts that have grown. They were two, one ruptured and caused extreme pain,” she said.
According to Lamiez, her doctor initially placed her on medication while they considered whether to operate on the larger cyst or wait and see what happened.
She said: “He said I’d have to decide on whether or not we were going to operate on the bigger one or are we also going to wait for it to also rupture?”
However, the situation worsened when the pain became unbearable.
Despite her condition, Lamiez admitted that she was reluctant to undergo surgery because of her busy work schedule and commitments to perform at several gigs.
She had initially hoped to push through the pain and continue working.
The cyst ruptured on Women’s Day
The DJ’s condition took a dramatic turn after she attended one of her scheduled appearances and headed to another venue.
Lamiez began feeling nauseous and vomited before the pain became so severe that she had to be rushed to hospital.
She later revealed that the cyst had grown bigger than her womb and ruptured on Women’s Day while she was travelling to her second performance in Brits.
“So the cyst that had now grown bigger than my womb burst on Women’s Day – seven minutes away from the second venue in Brits,” she wrote.
Doctors subsequently performed an emergency operation after determining that the situation required immediate medical intervention.
Reflecting on the terrifying experience, Lamiez said: “It felt like a movie.”
Doctors discover more cysts and diagnose endometriosis
During the emergency procedure, doctors reportedly discovered additional smaller cysts.
The operation ultimately led to Lamiez receiving an endometriosis diagnosis, adding another difficult chapter to her health journey.
Her experience has since prompted her to speak openly about the importance of listening to one’s body and not ignoring persistent or unusual pain.
“Ladies, if you experience abnormal period or back pains, please visit your nearest doctor,” she urged.
“I nearly lost my life because I ignored mine and chose to put work first.”
Lamiez said the ordeal had taught her a painful lesson about prioritising health over work.
“Living with constant pain isn’t normal nor is there any honour in working yourself to death – I learnt that the hard way,” she said.
Lamiez shuts down BBL rumours
The presenter also addressed speculation surrounding her hospitalisation after rumours circulated on social media suggesting that her health problems were linked to cosmetic surgery.
Lamiez firmly dismissed the claims.
“There is no BBL that is leaking. I had lipo and body sculpting in 2021. I haven’t had any complications to date,” she said.
