Legendary TV producer and playwright Duma Ndlovu will be conferred with a Ph.D. (honoris causa) by the University of Zululand (Ongoye) on Monday, May 09th, 2022. The degree is being awarded by the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr. Ndlovu said he was elated as this was the second such honor after the University of Venda bestowed an honorary Ph.D. in English a few years ago.

Incidentally, United States Congressman, Charles Rangel, declared May 09th Duma Ndlovu Day in Harlem back in 2016 when Dr. Ndlovu traveled to the United States for the honor, and May 09th is proving to be a lucky day as this time around he will be honored with yet another Ph.D. by Ongoye University.
Ndlovu is one of the most accomplished producers directors and playwrights of all time with multi-award-winning work and international recognition.
One of his long-running television programs, Muvhango is celebrating its 25th anniversary on SABC-2 this year, marking it only the second longest-running soapie after Generations.
His work spans various platforms, including television, theatre, and music. He was one of the early members of the South African Music Awards (SAMAS) and was chairperson of the Awards for the first ten years. He is also responsible for Uzalo, the most-watched show on television which is in its 7th season on SABC 1, and also created Imbewu which is enjoying its 4th season on ETV. He has written and directed several theatrical shows and his work has graced theatres in many countries.

“I am delighted to receive this honorary doctorate. It’s a huge honor for me. I want to extend my sincere thanks to the university. It is humbling to see one’s work being acknowledged in this way and God has been good.” said Ndlovu
The graduation ceremony will be held at the Ongoye Campus on Monday, May 09th, 2022.
