The Nigerian community has threatened to protest outside MojaLove and shut down Windsor after the suspected drug lord was shot by #Sizokthola team.
ActionSA Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate Xolani Khumalo was involved in the shooting of a suspected Nigerian drug dealer in Windsor East.
In the early evening of Sunday, 8 February, there was a shootout incident that took place in Windsor East in Gauteng involving ActionSA Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate and Moja Love presenter Xolani Khumalo.
The shooting incident happened during a drug bust by the Moja Love show Sizokthola hosted by Khumalo.
According to an eyewitness, there has been one fatality involving a man popularly known in the area by the name Rugert, real name Emeka Clement Uzor who is an alleged drug dealer.
“It appeared as though the show sent someone to buy from the desker, and this is when they caught the guy. There was chaos, and he ended up being shot and killed. Another guy was injured on the foot.”
It is alleged that the shot was fired by Khumalo before leaving the scene and allowing authorities to handle the matter.
“Security then put him in the car and drove off. A group of Nigerians went to the Linden police station asking that Xolani be arrested.”
ActionSA has since, in a statement, confirmed the shooting of a Nigerian suspect during an anti-drug operation:
“ActionSA can confirm that during an anti-drug operation yesterday, joined by ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate, Cllr Xolani Khumalo, a shooting incident occurred in which a Nigerian suspect, identified as being involved in drug trafficking, was shot,” the statement reads.
“For too long, drug syndicates have terrorised our communities through violence, intimidation and total disregard for the law. ActionSA will continue to support every decisive and lawful measure to dismantle this scourge and confront the violent resistance of criminals who have grown comfortable believing they are untouchable. That era must and will end.”
The South African Police Services (SAPS) in Gauteng confirmed that they were not part of the “operation” which led to a killing in Windsor, Gauteng. The City of Johannesburg’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Public Safety, Dr Mgcini Tshwaku, has firmly distanced himself and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) from a tragic incident that unfolded during the filming of the South African TV show, Sizok’Thola.
According to a community member living in Windsor East and West where the incident happened, friends, family, and other Nigerian nationals are planning to fly to South Africa for a “shutdown.”
“They have threatened to shut down Windsor, and to also protest outside of the Moja Love offices in Rosebank,” the community member said.
“They demand answers for the death of their own.”
The community member said the deceased was recently released from jail after spending 11 months for being found in possession of narcotics.
“He has a wife and children back in Nigeria. He came to South Africa to hustle. Rugert was recently released after spending 11 months in prison. We don’t know all the details about his arrest,” said the mole.
“On the day when Xolani and his people arrived, everyone started running, and Rugert was running towards his car when he was shot.”
Another source revealed that Sizokthola is currently being shot by Peony Productions.
“The show airs on Moja Love, but is currently being shot by Peony owned by Khumalo and his wife, so they would need to answer.”
