Five years after the release of her critically acclaimed sophomore album Mnyama, Amanda Black is celebrating a major milestone as Sony Music Entertainment Africa honours the album’s lasting impact and announces that her complete music catalogue is now housed under the label.
Released in 2021, Mnyama quickly resonated with audiences through Amanda Black’s powerful storytelling, emotive vocals and honest exploration of identity, healing and resilience. Five years later, the album continues to connect with listeners across generations and has cemented its place among contemporary South African music classics.
To mark the anniversary, Sony Music Entertainment Africa hosted an intimate in-office celebration for Amanda Black, featuring flowers, a commemorative cake and a special milestone award recognising the commercial success and cultural impact of her music.
Amanda Black was presented with a Milestone Award for Catalogue in Excess of 200 Million Streams, recognising the achievement of her catalogue surpassing 200 million streams across South Africa and beyond.
“Today is a celebration of an extraordinary artist whose music has become part of the soundtrack of so many people’s lives,” said Refiloe Ramogase. “As we celebrate five years of Mnyama, we are equally proud to officially welcome Amanda Black’s complete catalogue to Sony Music Entertainment Africa. This is an important milestone that reflects our commitment to preserving and growing the legacy of one of South Africa’s most impactful artists.”
Mnyama features some of Amanda Black’s most memorable work, including the deeply personal “Kutheni Na” featuring Kwesta and the empowering “Ungayeki” featuring Berita. The album’s themes of resilience, identity and hope have helped it maintain its relevance while introducing new generations of listeners to Amanda Black’s artistry.
The move also strengthens Sony Music Entertainment Africa’s long-term relationship with Amanda Black, while placing her complete catalogue under the company as the artist continues to build on her legacy in South African music.
