South African comedian Mongezi “Toll A$$ Mo” Ngcobondwane (nee Mahlangu) has publicly confirmed that he and television personality Mome Mahlangu are legally separated, marking the first time he has openly referred to her as his “ex-wife.”
The revelation comes as Mome has also been spotted without her wedding ring in recent months, further fuelling speculation that the couple had gone their separate ways.
Speaking candidly during a recent social media Live about the difficult chapter of his life, Toll A$$ Mo reflected on losing almost everything and having to rebuild from the ground up.
“I’ve been a survivor,” he said. “I am trying to get my life back.”
The comedian revealed that financial hardship forced him to part with some of his prized possessions after losing his house, farm and car.
“I lost everything,” he shared, explaining that he had to cash in on valuable belongings just to stay afloat while trying to rebuild his career and provide for his family.
Despite the hardships, Toll A$$ Mo said he found support from legendary music producer Lebo M, whom he described as a true brother.
“There were times I’d call him asking for petrol money, and he’d wire it from the USA,” he recalled, expressing gratitude for the support he received when many others had disappeared from his life.
The comedian admitted that the difficult period also changed the way he viewed friendships.
“I’ve lost friends and people I cared for deeply,” he said, adding that some people are only returning now because they believe he is rebuilding his success.
“Other people want to use me now because they feel like I’m on the come up again.”
While comedy remains his first love, Toll A$$ Mo has expanded into the music industry as part of his comeback.
He recently launched Black Crown Music, a record label that has already signed several artists, including Mthakathi Kush, Nicholen, Ginger and Sandy MRD, as he diversifies his business interests.
He said every opportunity to perform now carries even greater meaning.
“Every time I get on stage, I have to kill it. I have a mother to feed, kids, siblings to take care of. I will forever keep it real.”
One of the most emotional moments during the interview came when Toll A$$ Mo urged men to speak openly about their mental health struggles instead of suffering in silence.
“It’s okay to cry,” he said.
Breaking down in tears, he revealed that he once attempted to take his own life during his darkest period.
“My gardener found me. He saved my life,” he said emotionally.
The comedian encouraged other men facing similar struggles to ask for help before it is too late, saying vulnerability should never be mistaken for weakness.
Reflecting on life, loss and the people around him, Toll A$$ Mo also shared an unexpected request for the day he eventually dies.
“If one day I die, I don’t want any comedians speaking at my funeral,” he said, without elaborating further.
His comments come after years of personal and professional challenges that included public scrutiny, financial setbacks and the collapse of his marriage.
Now legally separated and rebuilding both his career and personal life, Toll A$$ Mo says he remains focused on providing for his family and creating opportunities through his new ventures, determined to prove that even after losing everything, it is possible to start over.
