Tsakani Matlala, the wife of Vusimuzi Cat Matlala, who is allegedly the mastermind behind the attempted murder of actress and model Tebogo Thobejane, was granted R20 000 bail by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.  Thobejane became the victim of a crime when she was walking out of a Sandton club, and a man shot at her e-hailing vehicle, injuring her friend, who has reportedly been bedridden and unable to walk since the incident.

Tsakane faces three counts of attempted murder as an accessory after the fact, one count of money laundering, one count of fraud and one count of an attempt to defeat the administration of justice (alternative to fraud charge). “A husband and wife, both involved in a conspiracy to have me murdered, are among the accused. This woman – someone I once knew – used her power and her money to orchestrate bullying campaigns online, to break me down emotionally, and ultimately silence me,” said Thobejane. “They paid girls to harass me online. They tried to kill me. And now they may walk free. I am speaking out because the justice system in South Africa has consistently failed victims. Protection is minimal. Corruption lurks in courtrooms. And survivors are expected to “move on” while our abusers roam free.
