The Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare and Community Organisation recently hosted the national annual GBV Awards ceremony and awareness campaign at the Birchwood Hotel in Gauteng. Popular South African star Inno Morolong was one of the award recipients for bravely sharing her story of resilience. “I am truly honoured to be receiving this acknowledgement,” she said. “As someone who survived GBV, I am alone in telling my story for others to learn from.

While many know her only for controversy, Morolong said there is more to her than meets the eye. “I am a firm believer in education and women empowerment. This initiative aligns with my values.”

The Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare and Community Organisation was founded by Cynthia Nomsa Dinalane in 2019 and is a non-profit that provides permanent, temporary, and emergency shelter for victims of gender-based violence (GBV). The organisation offers counselling, support, advocacy, skills development, and rehabilitation programmes in partnership with various social stakeholders. Having served over 150 victims to date – including women, children, and youth – it currently houses 65 individuals. In response to the alarming number of GBV cases, the organisation launched annual awards to raise awareness, promote community involvement, support victim reintegration, and honour GBV advocates and champions. Through her selfless leadership, more than 87 women have regained their self-esteem and independence, setting a high standard for humanitarian efforts in South Africa. Her influence extends beyond local borders, earning her recognition both nationally and internationally as a leading voice in women’s empowerment. Dinalane’s accolades include the Best Gauteng Humanitarian Award, the Gauteng GBV Ambassador title, the South African Heroes Award, the Basadi Music Award, two Global Recognition Awards (May 2024 and March 2025), the 2024 Global Humanitarian Award in Ghana, the 2024 African Humanitarian Award in Nigeria, and the UK Universal Awards in London.
