Steve Biko and Mamphela Ramphela’s son, Hlumelo Biko, as well as radio host Sidney Baloyi, take on new roles in Floyd Shivambu’s political party.
The Mayibuye Consultation Process has announced the appointment of Sidney Baloyi and Hlumelo Biko as its official Spokespersons. “Their wealth of experience and dedication to transformative communication will amplify our mission to engage meaningfully with South Africans and stakeholders, Shivambu said in a statement.

Sidney Baloyi is a veteran Radio Broadcaster and communications expert with over 30 years of experience in radio broadcasting and communications. “He brings a wealth of expertise to Mayibuye, ensuring our message resonates with clarity and impact,” he added.

Hlumelo Biko studied Politics and History at the University of Cape Town. After graduating in 1998, he pursued graduate studies at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. “With 26 years of business experience as an investor in Small and Medium Enterprises, and as the author of four published books, he brings intellectual depth and strategic insight to our movement.”

The National Consultation Team meeting that took place on the 5th and 6th of July 2025 resolved that the two Spokespersons will have full participation rights in the National Officials of the Mayibuye Consultation Process. The detailed outcomes of the NCT will be announced on Tuesday, the 8th of July 2025. The NCT resolved to make known its collective views and perspective on matters of national and global importance. The Spokespersons and the National leadership will therefore make reflections and give informed political perspectives on matters of national importance. The Mayibuye Consultation Process is an initiative to forge a new political path for South Africa. Born from the urgent need to address systemic inequality, economic exclusion, and political disillusionment, Mayibuye seeks to build an alternative political movement rooted in justice, unity, and shared prosperity.
