Internationally acclaimed South African composer and producer Lebo M, whose full name is Lebohang Morake, is heading to Paris Fashion Week with his wife, model and actor Nomoya Dube, known as Mrs Mo.
The couple will be in Paris as guests supporting South African luxury fashion house MaXhosa Africa and its founder and creative director, Laduma Ngxokolo, as the brand showcases African creativity on one of the world’s most prominent fashion stages.
Their appearance forms part of a broader celebration of South African creative talent, with fashion, music, film and cultural storytelling increasingly finding space on international platforms.
The moment is being presented under the theme “Africa in Paris: Culture in Motion”, positioning African creativity as an active contributor to global culture rather than simply a guest at the table.
From Johannesburg to Paris
According to the statement announcing their appearance, Lebo M and Mrs Mo are travelling to Paris in support of MaXhosa Africa and Ngxokolo.
“The moment celebrates African creativity not as a visitor to global culture, but as one of its influential contributors,” the statement said.
Their presence brings together two different parts of South Africa’s creative economy – music and fashion – at an event that attracts designers, models, celebrities, buyers, media and influential figures from around the world.
For Lebo M, the international setting also reflects a career that has taken South African music and storytelling far beyond the country’s borders.
Lebo M’s global career
Lebo M, born Lebohang Morake, is best known internationally for his work on Disney’s The Lion King, where his distinctive vocals and musical contributions helped shape the sound of the franchise.
His career has stretched across music, theatre, film and television, with The Lion King becoming one of the most significant international projects associated with his name.
His work has also been closely connected to the presentation of African music and voices to global audiences.
The Paris Fashion Week appearance therefore places him in a different but connected creative space – one where music, fashion, identity and African cultural expression intersect.
Mrs Mo joins him
Mrs Mo, whose full name is Nomoya Dube, is a model and actor who has also become known through her relationship with Lebo M and their public life together.
Her presence in Paris adds another dimension to the couple’s appearance, particularly given the connection between fashion, modelling and entertainment.
The trip comes as African designers and creatives continue to use major international platforms to tell stories about the continent through clothing, art, music and visual culture.
MaXhosa Africa’s international journey
Founded by Laduma Ngxokolo, MaXhosa Africa has become one of the South African fashion brands associated with bringing Xhosa-inspired design and South African cultural references to international audiences.
The brand is known for its knitwear and distinctive use of colour, patterns and motifs influenced by Xhosa cultural traditions.
Its international presence has helped place South African design within conversations around contemporary African luxury fashion.
The Paris appearance is consequently about more than a fashion showcase. It forms part of a wider effort to position African creative work within global cultural spaces while retaining its local identity.
Culture in motion
The “Africa in Paris: Culture in Motion” theme reflects the organisers’ broader message that African creativity should be viewed as part of the global cultural conversation.
With Lebo M representing music and Mrs Mo bringing her modelling and acting background, their presence alongside MaXhosa Africa creates a meeting point between entertainment, fashion and cultural storytelling.
As South African creatives continue to appear on international stages, Paris Fashion Week provides another opportunity to put the country’s creative identity in front of a global audience.
