Anele Kula (26) made a short appearance at the Protea Magistrate’s Court after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend, Snenhlanhla Mathosi (22) to death at her workplace on Sunday evening while getting ready to knock off.
Kula is said to have bought a knife from a nearby grocery shop before ambushing her at the retail store where she worked. He is said to have attacked her while staff were getting ready to knock off. Residents are angry at what had occurred and allegedly beat him before handing him over to police. According to community members, Snenhlanhla had ended the relationship, but Kula allegedly could not accept it.

On Tuesday, Kula appeared in court where he was charged with murder and premeditated murder. He abandoned his bail application for safety reasons. The case has been postponed to 30 June 2025 for further investigation. Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlhane said the suspect is believed to have arrived at the store around 8 pm and stabbed Snenhlanhla. “The deceased sustained several stab wounds to the upper body and was declared dead at the scene.”
