The minister of communications and digital technologies, Solly Malatsi, has intervened in the public outcry after Podcast and Chill with MacG host MacGyver ‘Mac G’ Mukwevho made derogatory remarks about TV personality Minnie Dlamini implying that the reasons behind her breakup with celebrity Dr Brian Monaisa might be due to a smelly fanny. “Why can’t she keep a man? Bro, I’m telling you, man, there’s got to be something wrong with her; maybe her coochie smells or something,” he said.

The minister said the broadcasting company should take some responsibility. “It is completely unacceptable what Mac G said regarding Minnie Dlamini and to have podcasters who have sizeable audiences [doing this] is completely unacceptable,” he said. “MultiChoice also has a responsibility to ensure that those associated with its brand, uphold the values of free media, the values of respect to people’s individual rights and dignity. Freedom of speech should not be used to harm other people’s rights. That’s what we are guarding against.”
