She recently returned to Metro FM to host The Saturday Top 30 show. This is after she was dismissed from Kaya FM after going “awol.”
When she joined Kaya FM, Dineo said, “I actually received an offer from Kaya 959 to do their breakfast show slot. I then showed them [MetroFM ] the offer. They could not match the offer at the time and I ended up taking the offer with Kaya,” Ranaka said. However, after a year or so, she was dismissed at Kaya FM who revealed this was due to alleged depression that affected her work. Managing director Collen Louw is reported to have said the station bent over backward to accommodate Dineo Ranaka’s challenges and even facilitated her admission to a mental institution. However, Dineo Ranaka went ‘awol.”

Dineo has since opened up about the micromanaging mentality at Kaya FM. She said her colleagues trivialised her experience in broadcasting and coached her pre and post-show. “There’s a culture there that has been left to brew and ferment too long, that people walk around with a sense of ‘You need my teachings’ and I actually don’t,” she said. “The industry has taught me a lot. I come with skills and I don’t need to prove myself to you – you are not my cheque signer.” She added that she was equal to everyone and some senior too. “I didn’t sign a contract to be trained on radio but because of what I bring. That started happening to me only regularly.”

Dineo said she was dismissed after calling in sick. “Kaya knows the truth. God fights my battles. Those who conspired against my name will fight among themselves. The gaslighting. How HR played their role. I am not cursing anyone. God knows the pain I was feeling that morning.” she said.
