Coach Steve Komphela has left his role as head coach at Golden Arrows to return to Mamelodi Sundowns, taking over from Rhulani Mokwena who the team let go this week.

Komphela will assume his old position as senior coach, assisting Manqoba Mngqithi. Komphela left Sundowns at the start of last season after he said he was pushed out of the club. Sundowns announced his return. They released a statement saying, “Mamelodi Sundowns today welcomed Steve Komphela who will serve as Senior Coach and will assist Manqoba Mngqithi and the Technical Team.”

Komphela said he is excited about his unexpected return. “I am very excited to be back at Mamelodi Sundowns where I was always inspired and treated with respect and love. I am committed to contributing to the Club achieving its goals in South Africa and on the African Continent.”
Mamelodi Sundowns is currently training in South Africa for the upcoming season and will be leaving in a few days for Austria as part of its pre-season preparations.
