Momo has gone as far as taking the matter to court at the Johannesburg High Court on 25 June and wants to be paid damages of R1 million for the alleged breach of contract. This is due to the company not living up to its promises to promote his music maximize endorsements and pay his royalties, which is consistent with the deal signed in 2020 about his project titled Momo’s Private School.

The agreement was that Kelvin would be paid his royalties every six months, which the label failed to do, and did not provide a royalty statement. Babalwa Mavuso, known as Babalwa M who is Momo’s partner is also involved in the dispute.” The record label failed to adhere to both the verbal and written agreements, despite various requests for the promises made by the presentation of the record label to be realised. It continued to capitalise on the success of the album without compensation. This was not done in terms of the verbal and written agreement,” the legal documentation reads. “Despite having full knowledge of the notice of termination and acceptance of the termination, the record label continued to represent to the public at large that it was managing Ledwaba. The record label failed to inform its distributors and publishers that no agreement existed between the parties, and payments should have been made directly to Ledwaba and not the record label.”
