Comedian and DJ Peter ‘Mashata’ Mabuse killed in a hail of bullets

In 2022, he buried his friend DJ Oupa “Sumbody” Sefako who was shot in a rain of bullets a day before his annual all-white picnic. DJ and comedian Peter “Mashata” Mabuse has also died after being shot in a hail of bullets in Tshwane.

His family confirmed the death and kindly requested privacy. “The family is appreciative of all the messages of support and condolences that have started to flow in and humbly request that they be given the space and time to deal with the trauma,” the Mabuse family said in a statement.

Gauteng police spokesperson Col Noxolo Kweza said Tshwane police had opened two dockets of murder and attempted murder after a shooting involving two men aged 46 and 45 years during the early hours of today [Sunday]. One victim died in the hospital while the other was injured. “The two victims were driving near TUT (Tshwane University of Technology) in Soshanguve when shots were fired at their vehicle. The suspects fled and police are following several leads and anyone with information to come forward.”

His comedy was mostly about love and family dynamics. He is also known for his social media videos on relationship advice while playing romantic music in the background. “While you are still alive, please love more and laugh. I encourage people to love and at the same time laugh about something,” he said in one video. Born in Tshwane, he said he grew up quiet, and in university he became an expressive person.
