The Urban Zulu brand has been instrumental in celebrating African culture and making it trendy and fashionable.
Founder and Creative Director Papy Kaluw started the Urban Zulu brand in the early 2000s with a passion to celebrate African authenticity and embrace all body types.
The Urban Zulu brand has dressed the likes of Khanyi Mbau, Wanda Baloyi, Judith Sephuma, Lerato Sengadi, and Zulu Mecca to name a few.
They have showcased on ramps across the world including New York and Paris.
Their most memorable moment was styling and dressing the late African music icon Busi Mhlongo, whose album Urban Zulu inspired the brand name.
“Mam Busi’s music and values live within all Africans and hence we have also chosen to celebrate her in one of our collections,” Papy says.
Five Tips on how to wear prints:
1: Mix and match your prints with varying sizes print sizes. Pair a top with a large pattern with smaller patterns.
2: You are allowed to mix leopard print with stripes. This fusion of patterns will give you a classy look.
3: If you want to be safe; wear a pattern with a solid colour rather than wearing print upon print upon print. If you are brave, choose patterns that contain identical color elements for outfit harmony.
4: Do not match, but coordinate.
5: Mix and match prints with a same base colour. Prints that have a common colour can be paired together.
