On 28 December 2020; president Cyril Ramaphosa announced that due to the spiking COVID-19 infections, South Africa would go back to level three; meaning all indoor and outdoor gatherings will be prohibited for 14 days from the date hereof, except for funerals and other limited exceptions as detailed in the regulations, such as restaurants, museums, gyms and casinos.

The President further announced that non-essential establishments – including shops, restaurants, bars and all cultural venues – must close at 8pm. The sale of alcohol from retail outlets and the on-site consumption of alcohol will not be permitted.

This comes after South Africa breached the one million mark of confirmed COVID-19 cases, after 9 502 cases were reported on Sunday, bringing the cumulative total to 1 004 413 cases.

He also stated that the country would be under a strict curfew of 9PM until 6 AM, and anyone not abiding by the regulations would be fined or arrested.

Businesswoman and reality star Shauwn Mkhize flew out to Dubai to escape the level three lockdown regulations.
“Good morning. Today is the last day of the horrible 2020. I had to
leave my country as we were suppose to sleep at 9 o’clock and didn’t want to get in trouble with black Twitter and our SA LAWS , cause I am a serious case of ADD at least to have one thing positive,” she wrote on social media.
“I will talk about that happened in 2020 fireworks display I promise to
share if I find it , I love you all and stay safe .”

The idea of a holiday came after she felt she had a horrible year.
“I had a horrible year , so If SA won’t have fireworks I am in a journey
looking for one any ideas of where can I find one, by the way I have to check COVID again I am still safe,” she wrote.
“I am on a journey looking for fireworks if I find them I will make sure I
will take videos for all of you cause I love you.”

Twitter had a lot to say about her trip:
