Lekompo musician and content creator Paul “Tsaka RSA” Madubanyana appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 October 2026, facing charges relating to the alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The matter was postponed to 19 October for profiling and a formal bail application, according to a report by Daily Sun. The state has indicated that it intends to oppose bail.

What happened in court

During proceedings, state prosecutor Mangope Digoro reportedly told the court that Tsaka was facing a Schedule 5 offence and that the state intended to oppose his release on bail.

Tsaka’s legal team, led by Advocate Mamabolo, challenged the classification of the matter as a Schedule 5 offence, reportedly arguing that the state had not yet provided a ballistic report confirming the type of firearm allegedly recovered.

Police statement on arrest

The South African Police Service (SAPS) previously confirmed that a 27-year-old suspect had been arrested on 9 October following an intelligence-driven operation in Rethabile Gardens, Polokwane.

According to the police statement, the operation involved the Provincial Tracking Team, Provincial Investigation Unit and Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, working with Tshimollo Security and Investigations.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said officers were executing an arrest warrant in connection with a crimen injuria case opened at Lebowakgomo SAPS in 2025. The complaint related to allegations that the suspect had posted vulgar and insulting remarks directed at a popular radio DJ on social media.

The SAPS statement said officers allegedly recovered a 9mm Norinco pistol with its serial number filed off, together with 80 rounds of live ammunition. Police indicated that a separate case involving the alleged possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition would be investigated.

A second court appearance expected

Tsaka is also expected to appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 13 October, in connection with the separate crimen injuria case.

The two matters are separate, and the allegations have not been proven in court. The outcome of the firearm case will depend on the further proceedings, including the bail application scheduled for 19 October.
