Media personality Minnie Dlamini has revealed that she personally paid R1.5 million towards her lavish 2017 wedding to estranged husband Quinton Jones, offering a fresh glimpse into the financial realities behind one of the country’s most talked-about celebrity marriages.

Speaking to radio personality Thando Thabethe on 947, Minnie said the amount came out of her own pocket, excluding sponsorships received for the celebrations. Her revelation has reignited interest in the couple’s separation, particularly as their divorce remains unresolved years after they announced the end of their marriage.

Minnie’s response when asked who paid

During the interview, Thando asked Minnie why Jones had not contributed financially to the wedding. The presenter’s brief response was: “Next question.”

The exchange has attracted attention because the couple’s wedding was widely publicised as a glamorous celebration of their relationship. Minnie’s account, however, suggests that the financial arrangements behind the scenes differed from what some might have expected.

The R1.5 million figure refers to the amount Minnie says she personally paid, excluding sponsorships. It should not be confused with the total value of the wedding or the separate financial arrangements surrounding the television special documenting the occasion.

A wedding that made headlines

Dlamini and Jones celebrated their union in two ceremonies in 2017. Their traditional wedding took place in Durban on 8 July, followed by a white wedding at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West, Western Cape, on 16 September.

The celebrations attracted considerable public interest, with the couple opening up parts of their wedding journey through the three-part television special Minnie Dlamini: Becoming Mrs Jones.

Dlamini previously explained that the idea for the show came from the intense media attention surrounding their engagement. In a 2017 interview with True Love, she said the project was her idea and a way to take ownership of her story rather than allow others to shape the narrative.

The marriage that came to an end

The couple’s relationship began years before their wedding. They met in 2010 while working at Urban Brew Studios, initially becoming friends before their relationship developed.

Their marriage lasted about four and a half years before they announced in February 2022 that they had filed for divorce. At the time, they said the decision followed careful consideration and that their priority was the well-being of their young son.

Despite the separation, the legal process has not yet been finalised. Minnie confirmed in her latest interview that she remains legally married to Jones, even though their relationship has ended.

Minnie says she is single.

Minnie has also made it clear that she is currently single. Her comments come amid years of public interest in her romantic life, with her relationships often becoming a topic of discussion beyond her professional achievements.

Minnie has previously addressed speculation that she had reconciled with Jones, saying: “We are still legally married, but I have taken back the Dlamini surname. My ID is back to Dlamini.” She also made it clear that she considered that chapter of her life closed.

A career beyond her relationship status

Born in Durban, Minnie rose to prominence in 2010 as a presenter on SABC 1’s music show Live Amp. She went on to establish herself as a television presenter, actress, and producer, hosting major entertainment and sporting events and launching her own production company, Beautiful Day Productions.
