Award-winning Gqom artist Goldmax has released the official music video for his latest single, ‘eZimbali’, following the track’s rapid rise on the charts and its growing presence across social media.
Released on 1 October 2026, the music video arrives after the single reportedly surpassed 100,000 streams within just three days and inspired the #eZimbaliChallenge on TikTok, Facebook and WhatsApp.
From Durban July to the dancefloor
‘eZimbali’ draws inspiration from the shenanigans and spectacle surrounding the Durban July at the luxury eZimbali estate on the KwaZulu-Natal coast.
The Gqom track carries Goldmax’s trademark sound while leaning into the Durban-rooted energy that has long defined his music.
The song has connected with listeners in KwaZulu-Natal and beyond, with its social media challenge helping to push the track beyond traditional music platforms.
Goldmax, real name Zipho Mthembu, said the response to the song had been particularly meaningful.
“This song is for the people. Seeing eZimbali go from a studio idea to topping charts has been humbling. The video is my thank you to every fan who streamed, shared and danced,” says Goldmax.

Music video brings the vision to life
The official video was directed by Swidi Films and visually expands on the world created by the song.
The release follows the track’s momentum across digital platforms, where listeners have been sharing and creating their own content around the #eZimbaliChallenge.
The video is now available on YouTube, while the single can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Boomplay.
Goldmax is Gqom royalty
Goldmax comes from KwaMashu, north of Durban, and has played a significant role in the development and mainstream growth of Gqom.
He first gained widespread recognition as one half of the influential duo Distruction Boyz alongside Que DJ. The pair were behind some of the genre’s defining early crossover records, including Babes Wodumo’s ‘Wololo’ and ‘Omunye’.
‘Wololo’, released in 2016, helped introduce the raw Durban sound to a much wider audience, while ‘Omunye’ became another major Gqom anthem.
Distruction Boyz went on to win Best Dance Album at the South African Music Awards and received a BET Award nomination for Best International Act.
Their success came during a period when Gqom was moving from Durban’s underground scene into national radio, major festivals and international audiences.
A new chapter for the Gqom veteran
With ‘eZimbali’, Goldmax continues to build on that history while creating music rooted in the culture and energy of his hometown.
The track’s connection to the Durban July and eZimbali adds another distinctly KwaZulu-Natal layer to a song that is already gaining traction beyond the province.
For Goldmax, the release also represents the relationship between an artist and the audience that continues to carry the music forward.
As the #eZimbaliChallenge continues to circulate online, the music video gives fans another way to experience the track and its Durban-inspired world.
