For almost six months, MacG and his Podcast and Chill co-hosts managed to stay out of the courtroom. But that legal breather is officially over. The controversy magnets are back in hot water, this time after being sued by an events company.

Podcast and Chill hosts MacG, Sol Phenduka and Ghost Lady are facing fresh legal trouble after Homecoming Events dragged them to the Johannesburg High Court over rape allegations made during one of their podcast episodes.

According to a report by Africa Daily, Homecoming Events is seeking a court order compelling the trio to publicly apologise and retract statements alleging that a woman was raped by a prominent DJ during one of the company’s recent events at Sun City.

The legal action follows the podcasters’ alleged failure to respond to a letter of demand issued by Webber Wentzel Attorneys, acting on behalf of Homecoming Events, which called for the removal of the allegations and a public apology.

In a founding affidavit, Homecoming Events director Oratile Sangweni alleges the controversial remarks were made during a Podcast and Chill episode titled “Blue Mbombo Drama | Simphiwe Dana, Alostro? SweetGuluva DNA Drama! | Bafana Bafana Visa Crisis,” which aired on or about 1 June 2026.

According to the court papers, the hosts allegedly claimed that a woman had been raped by a well-known celebrity DJ during the event and further suggested that Homecoming Events had deliberately concealed the incident to protect its reputation.

Sangweni argues the statements were “false, unsubstantiated and highly defamatory.”

He contends that the remarks created the impression that the company and its representatives knowingly suppressed a rape allegation involving a celebrity to safeguard their commercial interests.

“The applicants simply ask for an order stating that the statements are false and defamatory,” Sangweni states in his heads of argument.

He further argues that the allegations threaten the company’s reputation and business relationships, warning they could result in sponsors withdrawing support, artists distancing themselves from the brand, declining ticket sales and difficulties securing venue partnerships.

According to the report, Homecoming Events initially demanded that the podcast hosts remove the episode and all related content from YouTube and other social media platforms, undertake not to repeat the allegations and issue an unconditional public apology.

When those demands allegedly went unanswered, the company proceeded with legal action.

Sangweni also claims that despite being properly served with court papers, MacG, Sol Phenduka and Ghost Lady have neither filed opposing affidavits nor indicated any intention to defend the application.

“Failure to file an answering affidavit by the respondents simply means that there are no grounds for opposition that address any of the legally recognisable grounds which ordinarily negate the wrongfulness of the defamation,” Sangweni argues in the court papers.

He is asking the court not only to declare the statements false and defamatory but also to compel the trio to publish a retraction and grant an interdict preventing them from repeating the allegations in future. Homecoming Events is further seeking punitive legal costs.
