The Collen Mashawana Foundation has announced the appointment of multi-award-winning radio and television presenter, producer and health activist with over two decades of experience Penny Lebyane as its new Head of Communication, effective immediately.
In this pivotal role, the foundation said, Lebyane will serve as the primary public voice of the Foundation, provide strategic leadership to its communications team, and manage relationships with the Foundation’s partners and stakeholders.
“Her mandate is to shape and articulate the Foundation’s vision as it embarks on an ambitious new chapter in 2026 and beyond. A trusted friend and supporter of the Foundation since its inception 14 years ago, Ms Lebyane’s appointment marks a natural evolution of her commitment,”they stated.
She now formally steps into the role of Foundation Champion, offering her formidable platform and expertise to support the Founder and Chairman, Dr Collen Mashawana and the nationwide network of volunteers.
“I am deeply honoured and moved to formalize my long-standing relationship with CMF,” said Penny Lebyane.
“For over a decade, I have witnessed first-hand the transformative work this Foundation does in restoring dignity and hope to the elderly, as well as orphaned and vulnerable children. To now lead the charge in telling these powerful stories, amplifying our advocacy, engaging our partners and strengthening relationships with stakeholders is not just a job, but a calling. I am ready to work hand-in-hand with Dr Mashawana and our incredible volunteers to take our message even further.”
The appointment comes as CMF prepares to celebrate its 14th anniversary, a milestone that will see the launch of strategic plans to expand its social impact and advocacy work beyond South Africa. Ms Lebyane’s media acumen, stakeholder engagement expertise and passionate advocacy will be central to driving this new phase of growth and international awareness.
“Penny has been part of the CMF family from the very beginning and her heart has always been aligned with our mission,” said Dr Collen Mashawana, Founder and Chairman.
“Her credibility, communication prowess and genuine compassion make her the ideal person to steward our public engagement and relationships with partners. As we gear up for our 14th year and look to expand our reach across Africa, there is no one better to ensure our message of love, care and social justice resonates loudly and clearly. This is more than an appointment; it is a homecoming.”
