Jozi FM host and former Gagasi FM presenter Penny Ntuli has confirmed she is leaving the station after almost two years behind the microphone.

Sharing the news on  social media, Penny said she had planned to work for six months but had been at the station for almost two years. She however did not reveal her next move.

“Hey, my journey with Jozi FM has come to an end, she said.

“I came to Johannesburg thinking I’d work for the first six months and head back home, but here I am almost two years later, and that’s just how healthy & welcoming the environment has been to me.”

She shared her experience at the radio station.

“Under Jozi FM, geez, I learnt new languages.”

She thanked the listeners and especially her colleagues for being patient with her.

“Also under Jozi FM’s guidance. I am now a 2x Award Winning Radio Presenter in less than two years, and with that being said, it’s time for me to grow on to greener pastures and new opportunities.”

She thanked the station management and HR team for believing in her.

Penny joined Jozi FM after revealing that she had been offered R2 800 by Gagasi FM for R2 800, which she believed was a disgrace after working at the station for two years.

“It was time to renew contracts & I was given the opportunity to come back this season. I gladly accepted the new show until I was told ukuthi I’ll be getting paid R 2 800 p/m. (Something not too far from what I was getting paid the past 2 years),” she said.

“The salary of R2,800 per month on my offer letter or contract is not something I can sustain my life with,” she said.

Ntuli raised the issue of the salary with her boss, Ayanda Melansi, who, during negotiations, suggested that she should consider alternative roles instead of being on air. This comment killed her confidence.

Former uMhlobo Wenene radio station presenter Spitch Nzawumbi wrote, “You will never go wrong with choosing better, Penny. It doesn’t matter how much you love a place, if it doesn’t empower you economically in exchange for your gift, leave it. Next year this time, you will look back and be grateful you chose yourself. To the stars, baby.”
