Plettenberg deputy mayor Nokuzola Kolwapi is in hot water for firing gun into the air during Kwanokuthula celebrations.
Chaos erupted in Kwanokuthula, just outside Plettenberg Bay on Sunday after deputy mayor she allegedly hoisted a handgun above her head and fired several shot it into the air, all while a large crowd, including children, looked on.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Kolwapi is dancing in the middle of a crowd on Sajini Street before raising the gun and firing shots in the air around a crowd including children as she continued to dance.
Reports indicate that a case has been opened against Kolwapi at the Kwanokuthula police station. Police spokesman Sergeant Chris Spies stated that the incident is being investigated as a case of pointing a firearm.
“According to reports available, Kwanokuthula police members visited a premises after a video of the incident was circulated on social media. The investigation into this incident is at an early stage, and no arrests have been made yet, Spies said.
“The police are not in a position to divulge particulars of individuals involved at this stage.”
