Radio presenter and DJ Warrick Robert Stock (40) also known as DJ Warras has been shot and killed outside the Carlton Centre on Commissioner and Von Wielligh Streets, in Johannesburg on 16 December 2025.
The complainant alleges that he received a complaint of a shooting in the area. Upon arrival at the scene, he found a male lying on the pavement in pool of blood. He had four gunshot wounds on his chest and on gunshot wound on the chin. There were three cartridges and one live ammunition next to the body and a 9mm firearm next to him. The witness allegedly reported that the deceased was driving in a silver VW Golf 6. He parked it at corner Von Weiligh. He was approached by three males who fired shots at him. He managed to run and tried to draw his firearm but did not manage to fire any shots. Nothing was taken from him.
DJ Warras’ sister Nicole Stock who had been in the scene for some hours asked for privacy, for the sake of his children.
“It has been traumatic. I don’t know what to say, but let us respect the mourning period. He has got beautiful children and moms. We need positivity right now,” she says.
“We know he spoke up about many controversial topics; let us not focus on the negative but what he stood for. He was a good guy; he found humor in things that traumatised most of us. He was a selfless human being and loved everybody.”
Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie expressed his sadness at the passing of the KwaZulu-Natal-born DJ.
“I can confirm that he has passed on; he has been brutally killed. He was a Patriot, a lover of this country. He spoke his truth without fear or favour. He even criticised me, somebody who was close to him, and some of my decisions as a minister,” he said.
“That is the type of person DJ Warras was. During the G20, we chose him to come and DJ for foreign visitors from other countries. He loved the Zulu and Afrikaans language.”
