The Gupta brothers, Atul and Rajesh, were at the centre of the South African state capture allegations, they have since allegedly left the country and are believed to be citizens of Vanuatu in the UAE. The UAE denied South Africa’s request to extradite the brothers, citing insufficient documentation. Recent reports state that three Johannesburg properties in Saxonwold belonging to a Gupta-owned company in business rescue, are reportedly up for sale at an auction.

The furniture and appliances will be sold as a single lot following each respective property. The three properties are tied to the Gupta-owned company Confident Concept (Pty) Ltd and are said to be embroiled in litigation since 2018. Park Village Auctions’ Clive Lazarus told Daily Maverick that the auction of the homes was the “beginning of the end” of a seven-year saga. Confident Concept was allegedly involved in litigation with the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) owing R726,695 in rates and taxes as of 2022. The Supreme Court of Appeal has since ruled that Confident Concept’s properties go up for auction, with the creditors now set for a payday.
