A 32-year-old suspect was arrested for opening a false case of armed robbery at SAPS Benoni. The suspect allegedly reported being robbed at gunpoint by two men, claiming to have recognized one of them.

However, further investigation by Detective Sergeant Kabelo Langa revealed that the suspect’s statement was false. The person he claimed to have recognized was his ex-girlfriend’s brother, who was working in Cape Town at the time of the alleged incident.

Upon arrest, it was discovered that the suspect was wanted for a rape case opened at Fochville. He appeared at Benoni Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, for perjury and was remanded in custody. The investigation is continuing.
