From humble beginnings, Mxolisi Selby Makhubela, best known as Selbistic Soul (25) carved his career from being just a mere bedroom producer and DJ to being a successful rising star.
The Mpumalanga-born House Music and Amapiano producer and DJ is cementing himself among the greats. His latest single titled Owabani Lo Featuring Mayenzzy NG and Luvuyo SMA has much critical acclaim from his peers and music lovers. “Owabani Lo is a love song admiring the beauty of a woman,” Selbistic Soul says. “Women are beautiful creatures that need to be treasured,” he says charmingly.”

He starte dnmaking music at 16 years old. “I was 16 years old when I started making music in 2015. I used to visit friends who were busy with beats, something was touching me. I was clueless about production,” he said. “But because my older brother also happened to be a DJ, he bought me a laptop. I decided to download the Apps and programs, then I messed around until I made my first track in 2015. I then learned from my brother to DJ house music, but I am versatile and have been playing and producing both House and Amapiano.”
His journey has however not been easy and has been full of hurdles. After completing his Grade 12, he was home-bound due to a lack of funds to further his studies. Initially, he wanted to go to music school but found himself hustling having to make ends meet. “I was relying on family. But once I started doing well in music, I sold beats to rappers, vocalists, and production companies, and that is how I survived. If I had it my way, I’d be studying something music related because I realise that this is my passion.” Selbistic Soul is now signed to JVS Sound and has been working with them. “I have been getting gigs and tours. I now have a team of people I work with who have made life easy and are pushing my music and my brand.” He believes he is the greatest and doesn’t look up to anyone. “I only admire Kabza De Small and he is the only person I would do a lot to work with.”
