The bodies of trainee sangomas who drowned during a ritual in Hammarsdale river in Umlazi, Kwa-Zulu Natal have been recovered.

According to the report by IOL, the bodies Of trainee sangomas and members of the Nazareth Baptist Church (Shembe), Bongumusa Magubane (29) and Nkosinathi Zwane (31), from Georgedale in Mpumalanga drowned during an initiation ritual ceremony while accompanied by a third man who managed to survive.

One of the deceased’s grandmother, Antonia Mbizane, told IOL that her grandson left “improve his prophetic powers” and he promise he would return in a week’s time, however, police informed her of the bad news. Ndawonde said the prophet had not yet come to talk to them about the incident, adding that the family was left wondering as it did not have the full details of what her grandson was doing in the waterfall and what caused his drowning.
