Kwesta’s former producer Neo Makwa quits codeine and goes on the straight and narrow
He has made more headlines than he has made hits. Controversial and talented producer Neo Makwa who goes by the stage name Makwa has come forth to speak openly about his use of Codeine.
Lean, purple rain, sipping muddy, sizzurp as it is known amongst many youth has been used by popular stars Lil Wayne, and locally Emtee. Lean or codeine and promethazine is commonly found in cough syrups and purchased over the counter in most pharmacies. Common amongst the youth, lean users mix this with a soft drink, the most popular being Sprite or grape juice.

South African producer Makwa shook the twitter streets on the Monday 25th of October and shared that he will no longer be taking a sip from his purple cup.
According to the 30-year-old award winning producer he stopped taking lean six months ago but he was not ready to announce the news as he was not sure he will make it this far without collapsing.

Speaking to Buzz Life News the Mali songwriter says his decision to quit came after he realised he might have been abusing his “favourite drink.”
“It all started when I felt like I was drinking a lot because after the success of Ngud (A song by Kwesta which Makwa produced), all we would do is drink Ngud’ and make music.
“There was a time I felt I needed to stop drinking alcohol completely but the mistake I made was to replace a substance with a substance (lean),” he says.”

The Kahlehong based Producer also took the moment to highlight that after the success of his first album dropped in his own stable Mzokonko Records titled 16S21, he is also planning on dropping Amapiano album next month which he basically want to feature most of unknown producers and artists from around south Africa.
