South African designer Thebe Magugu, 27, long removed the title “local designer” as he has fully cemented the title of international designer to his name.
The Kimberly born designer has dressed many international starts and he is unstoppable.
Thebe recently shared pictures of US singer and actress Miley Cyrus wearing his strappy red suit from their first menswear collection.

Thebe graduated with a qualification in fashion photography and fashion media from LISOF. After winning best graduate collection, he interned and worked for a selection of designers fashion institutions and retailers. After 2 years, he began his namesake label, Thebe Magugu – a South African fashion brand primarily operating within the field of women’s ready to wear.
In 2019, Thebe was awarded the prize at the Fondation Louis Vuitton museum in Paris, beating out eight finalists – including Nigeria’s Kenneth Izedonmwen – from around the globe. He received 300,000 euros and a one-year mentorship program provided by a dedicated LVMH team.
“Together with our pillar values of quality, novelty and culture, we constantly seek new ways of presenting women with clothing that both complies with and enhances the everyday. Sleek, forward-looking design intersects with motifs from our continent’s storied past, providing smart, multifaceted clothes as valuable as their woman,” Thebe said after winning.
