If you are adventurous with beauty products, chances are you have probably seen someone famous using the face roller called the Jade Roller.

The beauty gadget is commonly made from jade or rose quartz.
Presented with two different size rolling balls on each end and is safe to use every day.
There have been a few myths and facts around what these rolling balls can do for your skin; such as these facial massage balls can help slim your face. This is not true; they have however been proven to improve your mood. This is because the facial massages reduce anxiety for some.
The rolling balls can however help to contour the face, naturally. They drain the face from fluids which help to contour your face temporarily.

Jade balls offer many skin benefits, like the following:

  • Improves blood circulation in the face making your skin look brighter and feel firmer.
  • Helps with clogged sinuses.
  • Some studies suggest that using this may help clear the sinuses.
  • Reduce puffiness on the face.
  • By rolling the balls you stimulate the lymphatic drainage which may also decrease puffiness and soothes the skin.
  • By storing your roller in the refrigerator the stone helps to cool the skin on contact and tighten pores.
How to use the balls
  • First, you apply a serum, moisturizer, or facial oil with lots of slip.
  • Without lubricant to the skin, the tool can pull the skin and this may contribute to wrinkles.
Begin at the neck, rolling in an upward direction.
  • Roll up, not back and forth. For the best results, roll from the jawline to the ear on both sides using gentle pressure.
  • Roll from the forehead up toward the temples in an upward direction.
  • It’s the same gentle pull that you would use if you were using your hands to pull the skin taut and wrinkle-free.
  • Roll flat over your eyebrows horizontally, which may feel especially relieving if you have a headache. This can be done for five minutes and should be stopped when feeling discomfort.
There are different types of rollers on the market and it can be difficult choosing the correct or one seeing which roller is fake.
The Jade is one of the more common stones you’ll find in rollers.
It’s been used for centuries in China. But you can also find face rollers made of, rose quartz, amethyst, obsidian, and metal.
Jade and metal are naturally cold materials and will not need to be stored in the refrigerator Jade and metal are naturally cold materials and will not need to be stored in the refrigerator to give a cooling sensation to the skin.
Rose quartz can hold its temperature (hot or cold) for a long period. So if you want a colder roll and are planning to use it for more than a minute or two, quartz that’s been cooled in the fridge is your best option.
Jade is a softer stone than rose quartz, so a quartz roller may last longer and not break as easily if dropped. However, jade may not be as smooth as some of the other stones, but this added friction may be especially helpful for contouring. Traditionally, amethyst is said to help purify the skin, and it may help to treat acne. However, research is needed to support this claim.
There are two types of genuine jade; nephrite and jadeite.
Nephrite jade is what most rollers are made of as it’s a less precious stone in comparison to jadeite. That characteristic makes it less expensive.
However, some rollers that are sold as jade aren’t jade at all.
They may be made of another stone that’s been chemically dyed or treated with polymers to look shiny. You don’t want that stuff on your face.
How to check if a Jade roller is real.
Touch your jade roller.
Real jade will feel cool to the touch.
By examining the roller closely, it shouldn’t have air bubbles in it, but it should have marbling or some irregularities on the surface.
Scratch the surface of the roller lightly with your fingernail or the tip of a pin. Real jade won’t have marks on it.
How to clean your roller.
Wipe off any excess oil or product with a soft, clean washcloth.
It’s a good idea to wipe it off after every use.
Use a gentle face wash to kill bacteria and rinse thoroughly with room temperature water. Avoid putting very hot water on your facial roller or soaking it in water. Rest the roller horizontally on a clean dry cloth to dry.
