For many Africans; bead-work holds symbolism.
The colours, shapes, how, and where beads are worn has meaning.
This year, May 18 marked International Museum Day, an annual celebration coordinated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), Ethekwini PRC, and Durban Art Gallery.
Artist, beading specialist, and field worker Hlengiwe Dube took people on a beading journey.
Youth Development Director at Ubuntu Art museum Thobeka Dhlomo held a discussion with Hlengiwe during her exhibition The Secret of Beads: Imfihlo Yobuhlalo at the Durban Art Gallery.
