The Motherhood Network seeks to empower mothers ahead of 2026 local elections

The Motherhood Network is launching an election series aimed at helping mothers and families make informed decisions ahead of South Africa’s 2026 Local Government Elections on 4 November.

The series will bring political leaders and influential voices from across the political spectrum into conversations about leadership, service delivery, community development and issues affecting South African households.

The first episode features ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba and is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, 11 October, at 07:00 CAT. Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema is also expected to feature in an upcoming episode.

A platform for mothers and families

The initiative aims to give mothers and mother-led communities an opportunity to hear directly from political leaders about their positions, priorities and plans for the communities they seek to represent.

According to The Motherhood Network, the series is intended to help families better understand the issues that affect their daily lives and equip them with information to consider when casting their votes.

The network highlighted the role mothers play in shaping household decisions, influencing conversations within their communities and contributing to the country’s democratic future.

Network distances itself from political parties

The Motherhood Network has emphasised that it is not affiliated with or aligned to any political party or organisation.

It said invitations to political leaders should not be interpreted as endorsements of the individuals or parties involved.

Instead, the series is intended to provide space for diverse political perspectives, allowing viewers to form their own opinions based on the conversations presented.

By featuring leaders from across the political spectrum, the network hopes to encourage open discussion and greater public engagement with local government issues.

Local government elections approach

South Africa’s local government elections are an opportunity for voters to choose the representatives responsible for municipal leadership and decisions affecting services such as water, sanitation, refuse removal, roads and local development.

With communities facing different service delivery challenges, access to information about political parties’ priorities and plans can help voters assess the choices available to them.

The Motherhood Network’s election series seeks to contribute to these conversations by creating an accessible platform for mothers and families to engage with political leadership ahead of the polls.

The first episode featuring Herman Mashaba premieres on Sunday, 11 October 2026, at 07:00 CAT, with an interview with Julius Malema planned for a future episode.
