Von Scales, the husband of singer and reality television personality Trina Braxton, has died at the age of 58.
The Braxton family confirmed his death on Thursday, October 1, 2026, through a statement issued by Trina Braxton’s publicist, David Robinson.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton,” the statement said.
“The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers but is asking for privacy at this time as they navigate this unfortunate event.”
The family did not announce an official cause of death.
Reports of his death in Atlanta
TMZ reported that Scales died at around 2am on Thursday in Atlanta.
Sources close to the family told the publication that Scales had been dealing with heart-related problems. However, an official cause of death had not been released at the time of publication.
That distinction is important because the family’s public statement confirmed his death but did not identify a medical cause.
His marriage to Trina Braxton
Scales and Trina Braxton married in December 2019 in St Louis, Missouri.
Their relationship became familiar to television audiences through the Braxton family’s reality television programmes, including Braxton Family Values and The Braxtons.
Their wedding was also featured on Braxton Family Values.
Trina had previously spoken publicly about their relationship, describing Scales as someone she enjoyed talking to during their courtship.
In a 2019 interview with ESSENCE, she said: “He’s just such a great conversationalist, and I just enjoyed talking to him.”
She also spoke about the support Scales gave her following the 2018 death of her former husband, Gabe Solis.
“He really helped me through it; he stood right by me,” she told Entertainment Tonight in 2019. “I just thank God for him.”
Scales outside reality television
Although he became publicly known through his marriage to Trina and appearances connected to the Braxton family, Scales also worked as an entrepreneur.
His public profile was closely connected to the Braxton family through his relationship with Trina, but reports have not identified his death as being connected to his television appearances or business activities.
