He said he left the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) when it started becoming like a cult. He then joined uMkhonto Wesizo Party (MK) where he was axed from his position. Former Umkhonto Wesizwe Party Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu hosted a press conference at the Mhulu Luxury Boutique Hotel in Midrand announcing plans to launch a new political party, distancing himself from the ANC, EFF, and MK Party, and pledging a gender-balanced leadership.

Shivambu left the EFF to join the MK Party in August 2025— after being one of its founding members alongside Julius Malema in 2013. “I learned more as an MK member than when I was deputy president of the EFF,” he said. He then joined MK and was released following a visit to a Malawi church owner by controversial pastor Shepard Bushiri. “There is more to his departure than a church visit,” an inside revealed. Shivambu said he would be opening his own party. “I will not join the ANC. I will not go back to the EFF. A political party should not be a family affair or a personal project,” he said.
He said his party leadership will be announced in due course and will commit to gender balance and inclusive representation. He stated that he has no plans to resign from the MK Party. He said he would begin engaging with South Africans “with the aim of establishing a political party,” he said. “If the people of SA say we should do so, we do not want to do that as a personal project or as a group of friends project,” he said.
“It must be a party that is owned by the people of SA. So that is basically why we called this press conference to communicate, and we will be going to the ground to speak to the people. We’ll be talking to young people via social media platforms, and other media platforms .”
