Woza Afrika group founder Manqoba Ntombela (62) known for their popular 2000s song Istokvela was shot and killed on Friday outside his home allegedly by spaza shop mafia in Ratanda, in Heidelberg, Gauteng.
Reports state that Ntombela left his spaza shop just after 6 pm and drove to his house, five houses away. His son who was in the house, heard his car stopping outside, and when he got out to open the gate, was shocked by gunshots and he ran back into the house. After a few minutes, he went outside and found our dad shot in the car.
His family was then called from the shop to the scene where he was still alive and rushed him to hospital who met the medical team along the way and declared him dead after a failed resuscitation.
Ntombela who became famous in after joining Shell Road to Fame in the early 2000s was known to be a community leader and pioneer in theatre productions in Ratanda.
