Thami Ndlala arrested for intimidation

Businessman Thami Ndlala and media personality Thandi “Blue” Mbombo appeared at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 October, in a legal dispute involving an interim protection order and a separate intimidation case.

The protection order matter was postponed to December. However, the proceedings took another turn when Thami was arrested in court in connection with the separate intimidation case opened by Blue.

At the time of publishing, police had not confirmed the reported arrest.

The latest developments follow Blue’s public statement in which she said she feared for her life and raised allegations of death threats, verbal abuse and emotional torment. Thami has previously denied the allegations.

Two cases, two separate legal matters

Blue has opened two cases against Thami – one relating to a protection order and another involving intimidation.

Monday’s appearance at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court concerned the protection order. The matter was postponed to December, while the reported arrest related to the separate intimidation case.

The development is particularly significant because Thami had previously disputed the existence of the intimidation case in a statement responding to Blue’s allegations.

The reported arrest has not yet been confirmed by police, and further details about the circumstances surrounding it remain unclear.

Blue says she fears for her life

The court proceedings follow Blue’s decision to speak publicly about what she described as months of threats and emotional distress.

In a statement published earlier this month, Blue said she had initially hoped to handle the situation privately but felt compelled to speak out because of concerns for her safety and that of her child.

“As South Africa has been confronted with brutal cases of GBV, a similar scourge has been haunting my personal space. I hoped I could deal with it discreetly and privately. However, it proved too egregious a monster for one woman to contain,” she said.

Blue alleged that the situation had escalated over several months, claiming that she had experienced death threats, verbal abuse and emotional torment. She also alleged that people had been hired to intimidate her and that threats had extended to her child.

“My naivety had led me to believe that he would grow tired and stop. Instead, he persisted, and things got worse,” she said.

Blue said she had opened a criminal case with the South African Police Service and had obtained an interim protection order.

She maintained that her decision to speak publicly was about protecting herself and her loved ones rather than seeking a public fight.

Thami denies the allegations

Thami has rejected Blue’s allegations through a statement issued by the Thami Ndlala Foundation.

The foundation said he “categorically denies” the claims and intends to address the matter through the appropriate legal processes.

Thami’s response also questioned aspects of the material referred to in Blue’s protection order application, maintaining that the documentation available to him did not contain the supporting material she had referenced.

His denial came amid growing public attention surrounding the dispute, which has also resulted in separate High Court proceedings concerning the publication of certain allegations.

The High Court matter is distinct from the protection order proceedings at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

What happens next?

The protection order matter is now expected to return to court in December. Meanwhile, the reported arrest in connection with the intimidation case introduces a further development in the dispute.

At the time of publishing, police had not confirmed the arrest, and the circumstances surrounding it had yet to be independently established.
