Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has had his outstanding arrest warrant struck off the court roll after appearing at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with his firearm-related case.
The media personality appeared before the court on 7 September, following a warrant issued last month after he failed to attend his scheduled proceedings. His appearance means the warrant will no longer remain outstanding.
Maarohanye remains out on R5 000 bail, with his case postponed to 17 September 2026.
Why the warrant was issued
The warrant was issued on 24 August after Maarohanye failed to appear in court.
His legal representatives told the court that he had been unable to attend because of ill health. Rather than immediately enforcing the warrant, the court held it over until his next appearance.
After Maarohanye appeared in court on Monday, the warrant was subsequently struck off the roll.
His bail has also been extended while the criminal proceedings continue.
The case against Jub Jub
The case relates to an alleged confrontation involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale in June.
According to allegations before the court, Maarohanye confronted the driver after allegedly accusing him of having a romantic relationship with his partner.
He faces charges of discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing an object that could cause another person to believe it was a firearm.
The National Prosecuting Authority has previously indicated that the state is ready to proceed with the prosecution. A pellet gun was also seized from Maarohanye’s residence during the investigation, according to the NPA.
Jub Jub has denied the allegations
Maarohanye has previously denied the allegations against him, describing the case as fabricated.
The charges remain allegations and have not been proven in court.
His latest appearance means the matter can now continue without the outstanding warrant hanging over him. He is expected back at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on 17 September for the next stage of the proceedings.
A history of high-profile legal battles
The latest case adds to a long history of legal controversy surrounding the musician and television personality.
Maarohanye, who became a prominent figure in South African entertainment through his music and television career, has previously faced serious criminal proceedings.
In 2012, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of murder and other charges arising from a 2010 crash that killed four children. His murder conviction was later overturned on appeal and replaced with culpable homicide, with his sentence reduced to 10 years. He was released on parole in January 2017 after serving part of the sentence.
Following his release, he rebuilt his public career and became a familiar television personality, including through his work on shows such as Uyajola 9/9.
His current firearm-related case is therefore being closely watched, particularly given his previous encounters with the criminal justice system.
For now, Maarohanye remains on bail as he prepares to return to court later this month.
