Uncool MC steps into his own with new Amapiano single Setla

After years of lending his energy and unmistakable presence to some of Amapiano’s biggest records and stages, Uncool MC is stepping firmly into his own artistry with his latest single, Setla.

The track, released on Friday, 4 September 2026 through gamma, marks a new chapter for the Johannesburg-born entertainer and serves as the first taste of his upcoming solo EP, which is scheduled for release on 25 September.

A star-studded Amapiano collaboration

Meaning “move your body” or “dance”, Setla brings together Uncool MC with Amapiano heavyweights DJ Maphorisa, Focalistic, Ntsako XVI and Shaun 101.

The dance-driven track reflects the high-energy style Uncool MC has become known for while introducing listeners to a more personal side of his artistry.

For Uncool MC, Setla is about more than simply making people dance.

“Setla carries a deeply personal meaning for me. It’s a celebration of life, growth and the journey that has brought me to this point in my career,” he says.

“The song is an invitation to let loose and enjoy the moment, while also celebrating how far I’ve come.”

He adds that the references to CÉ LA VI in Sandton are intentional, tying into the song’s themes of luxury and opulence.

From DJ to Amapiano MC

Born Thando Sibeko, Uncool MC began his career behind the decks as a DJ before making the transition into MCing.

His work as an MC eventually opened the door to songwriting and recording, allowing him to move from being a familiar voice on stages to becoming an artist with his own catalogue.

Over the years, he has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the Amapiano scene, featuring on tracks such as Bula Nthweo with DJ Maphorisa, Vetkoek and Mahoota, Sela by Cyfred and DBN Gogo, and oTsotsi by Kwenyama Brothers.

His stage credentials have also continued to grow, with performances at major events including Cotton Fest, Piano People, Afro Nation and Fact Durban Rocks.

A growing global audience

Uncool MC’s rise has been reflected in his streaming numbers, with his catalogue having surpassed 140 million Spotify streams across his own releases and collaborations.

He currently has more than 1.4 million monthly Spotify listeners, highlighting the growing audience he has built both across Africa and in international markets.

With Setla, Uncool MC is now shifting the focus towards his own sound and story.

The single acts as an introduction to his forthcoming EP, promising a project built around confidence, celebration and ambition.

After years of helping bring other artists’ records to life, Uncool MC is now making it clear that he is ready to take centre stage in his own musical journey.
