Reality TV personality Mpumelelo Mseleku says he has lost faith in the criminal justice system, claiming that little progress has been made more than a year after he reported an alleged armed raid at his home by men posing as police officers.
Mseleku, best known for appearing on Uthando Nes’Thembu and Izingane Zethembu and as the son of renowned polygamist Musa Mseleku, first made headlines after opening a criminal case following the dramatic incident, during which armed men allegedly identified themselves as police officers before searching his home and leaving with cash.
Providing an update on the matter, Mseleku said the investigation has gone nowhere despite repeatedly following up with police.
“Good day everyone, I have a challenge I would like ya’ll to assist me with. I was attacked by Umhlali police while I was with my fiancée and accused me of drugs, money laundering, fraud, manufacturing of illicit goods and property suspected to be stolen. When they got in they mentioned human trafficking as one of the offences too. And they said they were authorised by the provincial SAPS to come and raid me.”
According to Mseleku, none of the allegations levelled against him were substantiated.
He says the handling of his case has become increasingly frustrating.
“It keeps being allocated a new investigator. I opened the case at Durban Central and it was moved to Umhlali, and since then, they have been changing investigating officers. I am not getting any justice. All the allegations were untrue, and I know nothing of them. I need help with this matter.”
The television personality maintains that he has fully cooperated with authorities but believes the frequent changes in investigating officers have delayed any meaningful progress.
His latest comments come after he previously alleged that the men who raided his home accused him of a string of serious offences, including drug dealing, money laundering, fraud, human trafficking and possessing stolen property, before searching the premises and allegedly leaving with cash. A criminal case was subsequently opened into the incident.
At the time of publication, SAPS had not publicly responded to Mseleku’s latest allegations regarding the investigation or his claims that the matter continues to be reassigned to different investigating officers.
