Thousands of African National Congress (ANC) supporters gathered at Makwerale Stadium in Thohoyandou on Saturday, 25 July, as the ANC Limpopo Province hosted its Nelson Mandela Legacy Rally, with Provincial Chairperson Dr Phophi Ramathuba delivering the keynote address.
Addressing party members and supporters, Ramathuba said the ANC remained committed to implementing the resolutions and priorities outlined in the party’s January 8 Statement, calling for decisive action to improve the lives of South Africans.
The rally formed part of the ANC’s Nelson Mandela Month programme, honouring the legacy of the country’s first democratic president while reaffirming the party’s commitment to service delivery, renewal and unity.
In a statement following the event, the ANC Limpopo Provincial Executive Committee said the overwhelming turnout demonstrated the enduring support the party enjoys in the province.
“The ANC remains at the center of society, the people are the heartbeat of this historical movement and today the masses of our people in Limpopo affirmed once and for all that indeed the African National Congress of Peter Mokaba, Collins Chabane, Sefako Makgatho, struggle heroes from Limpopo, is still the leader of society,” the statement read.
Ramathuba used her address to stress the importance of translating the party’s commitments into tangible action, urging ANC structures and public representatives to remain focused on addressing the challenges facing communities.
She said the January 8 Statement provides a clear roadmap for the movement and called on members to remain disciplined and united as the ANC works to strengthen governance and accelerate service delivery across the province.
The Nelson Mandela Legacy Rally also celebrated the contributions of struggle icons from Limpopo, including Peter Mokaba, Collins Chabane and Sefako Makgatho, whose sacrifices and leadership continue to inspire generations of ANC members.
Party supporters filled Makwerale Stadium in the ANC’s green, black and gold colours, singing liberation songs and pledging continued support for the governing party.
The ANC said the successful rally reinforced its position as a movement rooted in the people and committed to advancing the aspirations of South Africans.
“The ANC remains at the center of society, the people are the heartbeat of this historical movement and today the masses of our people in Limpopo affirmed once and for all that indeed the African National Congress of Peter Mokaba, Collins Chabane, Sefako Makgatho, struggle heroes from Limpopo, is still the leader of society,” the party reiterated in its statement.
The rally concluded with a renewed call for unity, organisational renewal and dedicated service to communities in honour of Nelson Mandela’s legacy.
