Actor Sipho Ndlovu, best known for his roles in The Wife and Isitha: The Enemy, has been publicly vindicated after his former girlfriend, Thandeka Shanice Mhlanga, issued an apology for falsely accusing him of assault and gender-based violence (GBV).
The dramatic fallout stems from an incident on 15 November 2024 when Mhlanga took to social media claiming Ndlovu had assaulted her after she arrived at his home in Fourways, Johannesburg. At the time, she alleged the actor had slapped and pushed her during an altercation, leaving her with a black eye. Her accusations quickly spread across social media, with many users condemning the actor before the matter reached the courts.
Ndlovu consistently denied ever assaulting Mhlanga. He maintained that she had trespassed onto the estate where he lived and forcefully entered the premises after their relationship had already ended. According to his version of events, Mhlanga sustained her injuries while attempting to climb a wall to gain access to the property and not as a result of any physical assault.
The actor subsequently opened a counter-case against Mhlanga at the Douglasdale Police Station. She was later arrested and charged with common assault, crimen injuria and defamation of character before appearing in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.
Now, in a video shared on social media, Mhlanga has apologised to Ndlovu, admitting that she acted out of anger following the breakdown of their relationship.
“I’d like to speak about that incident that happened on 15 November 2024, between myself and Sipho Ndlovu. Firstly I’d like to apologise for opening a case against him, it was in the heat of the moment. I damaged his reputation. I chose to withdraw the case because I caused damage to his name and image. I was upset with how the relationship had ended and I sincerely apologise to his fans and supporters for falsely accusing him,” she said.
Mhlanga also admitted that she regretted going to Ndlovu’s home after their relationship had already ended.
“I would like to find a way to put the past behind us and move forward. I knew on the day that I had gone to his house, I should not have gone because the relationship had already ended.”
She went on to apologise to companies and brands that may have distanced themselves from Ndlovu because of the allegations, acknowledging that her accusations may have cost him professional opportunities.
The apology marks a significant turnaround in a case that attracted widespread public attention, particularly because it involved allegations of gender-based violence against a well-known television actor. While the claims initially sparked outrage online, Ndlovu maintained his innocence throughout the legal process, insisting he had never laid a hand on his former partner.
