South African actress Sihle Ndaba has made the difficult decision to take time away from social media after opening up about years of bullying, harassment, and deeply disturbing threats that have taken a toll on her mental and emotional wellbeing.

Ndaba revealed that she is often targeted with frightening and threatening messages online. Sharing one of the messages she received, she said it read: “I wish I can grape you,” a violation that left her questioning her safety in digital spaces meant for connection and communication. She admitted that the constant exposure to such abuse has left her exhausted and uncertain about how to protect herself online. “This has been going on for years, from hundreds of men,” she said.

“I have blocked, restricted and reported on the different platforms. Still, some fall through the cracks. I’d be lying if I said I am okay, I am exhausted.”

The actress also reflected on whether she should completely close her direct messages to prevent further contact from strangers, saying the ongoing trauma has forced her to reconsider her presence on social media altogether. In addition to the threats, Ndaba shared that she has also faced body shaming in the past, even when making positive lifestyle changes such as working out and losing weight, adding to the emotional strain she has endured in the public eye. While she has not ruled out returning in the future, her decision to step away highlights the painful reality many public figures face behind the screens, where admiration is often overshadowed by cruelty.
