A man (43) was fond in possession of illicit cigarettes in Sundra on 05 December 2025 at about 22:00 valued at about R17,4 million.
Police in Delmas in Mpumalanga with the assistance of members of the Sundra Police Station and security companies, followed up on information regarding illicit cigarettes that were being transported in water tanks. The suspect id from the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Police spotted a truck with two trailers in Sundra and stopped it. The load consisted of twelve 5 000-liter water tanks. Upon further investigation, members found that the tanks were stocked, to capacity, with different brands of cartons of illicit cigarettes. Police recovered 25 pallets of illicit cigarettes with an estimated street value worth R17,4 million.
He was placed under arrest for possession of illicit goods, and is expected to appear before the Delmas District Court on Monday, 08 December 2025.
