Police in Dennilton under the Sekhukhune District, have launched a manhunt for unknown suspects following an arson attack at a High School in Bloempoort village.

At approximately 05:20 on Saturday, 22 November 2025, police responded to a report that a building at the school was on fire. Upon arrival, members found the science laboratory engulfed in flames while community members were attempting to extinguish the blaze. The firefighters managed to bring the fire under control.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the perpetrators forced open a window to gain entry into the administration block. The offices inside were ransacked, including the principal’s office. Police investigations are underway to determine what might have been stolen.

The motive for the attack remains unknown, and no arrests have been made.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident, calling it a deliberate act aimed at destabilising learning and the future of young people.

“We urge the community to come forward with any information that can assist in ensuring the swift arrest of those responsible,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
