Advocate Phuthi Given Mothemane (38) was sentenced for corruption by the Bellville Regional Court on 20 October 2025. This sentence came after he was convicted on 20 June 2025.
Mothemane was sentenced to nine years imprisonment which was wholly suspended for a period of five years with conditions and three years of correctional supervision.
This stems from September 2023 when the accused was arrested by the Hawks Bellville based Serious Corruption Investigation team.
It was reported that on 23 September 2022, a member of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) was approached by Mothemane and he offered R50 000 to file representations in favor of his client and make the State’s case to disappear.
The Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks, Brigadier Ramovha, expressed his delight as this will serve as a deterrent to anyone who is involved in corrupt activities and further warned that one day the net will close on them.
