Two men have been arrested after leading police to the scene where they killed a man. The victim was found floating in the nearby Qumbu village river with legs tied with a rope and having bruises all over.
A 37-year-old man from the Balasi locality was reported at the Qumbu Police Station in the Eastern Cape as missing on Tuesday, 09 September 2025. He was last seen on Saturday, 06 September 2025 in Qumbu village.
Qumbu Detectives led by their Commander, Detective Captain Nongcawula started their intensive investigation looking for the missing man.
Information was received on Thursday, 11 September 2025, about two male suspects of Magqubeni locality – Tyirha A/A, aged 32 and 34, who were seen assaulting the missing man in town, accusing him of having stolen a television set and clothing items.
The two accused were traced and found on Friday 12 September 2025.
The duo led Police to the location of the body of the deceased, floating in the nearby Qumbu village river with legs tied with a rope and having bruises all over. The two men were arrested and charged for murder and are due to appear before Qumbu Magistrate Court on Monday, 15 September 2025.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana commended Qumbu Detectives for their sterling work and urged them to leave no stone unturned in making sure that justice is served for the deceased.
