Entertainer, LGBTQI activist, Amstel Maboa is set to receive an honour at the No Fear Pride March.

The award honours those who have demonstrated exceptional bravery and dedicated their services to the queer community of Mamelodi and beyond. I am so honoured and delighted to be getting this award,” Amstel said. “We come from far. I wish my friends were here to see the impact we had as 3Sum, but I will continue the legacy. We have opend doors for young queer people.”

The “No Fear” Pride March is organized by Walk With Heart (WWH), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sexual health and well-being within the LGBTIQ+ community in Mamelodi. Our mission includes raising awareness about HIV and AIDS, providing testing and treatment, and addressing the broader challenges faced by the LGBTIQ community.

Amstel is known for being a founding member of the first openly gay Afro-pop group, 3Sum, alongside the late Koyo Bala and Jeff Moyo. Amstel will be recognized as a gay icon in South African pop culture and is also a founder of the Amstel Maboa Foundation. He has been vocal about LGBTQIA+ rights and uses his platform to educate others about queer life and experiences.  The awards will be hosted on 28 June 2025, at Solomon Mahlangu Freedom Square. Time: 14:00 (this is the time of the prize giving ceremony, the march begins at 10 am)
